How does the TD2e acoustic imaging camera work?
The TD2e uses an array of 64 MEMS microphones to capture sound from multiple directions simultaneously. A beamforming algorithm focuses on sound sources from specific directions, filtering out environmental noise. The device then displays the sound source location as a colorful heatmap overlaid on the live camera image, allowing you to "see" where sounds are coming from — including ultrasonic sounds beyond human hearing.
What kind of leaks and faults can the TD2e detect?
The TD2e can detect:
- Compressed air system leaks — including pneumatic valves, cylinders, and fittings
- Gas leaks — pressurized gas escaping from pipelines
- Vacuum system leaks — negative pressure leaks
- Loose joint vibration — abnormal high-frequency sounds from loose components during operation
Its 2kHz to 100kHz frequency range covers both audible and ultrasonic signals produced by these faults.
What is the detection range of the TD2e?
The effective detection range is 0.3m to 60m.
Sounds closer than 0.3m may still be detected, but near-field effects can reduce positioning accuracy. Under certain conditions, sound sources with very high sound pressure levels may be detected beyond 60m.
Can the TD2e work in noisy industrial environments?
Yes. The TD2e is designed for industrial use. In noisy environments, use Noise Suppression Mode to filter out background noise and maintain stable acoustic imaging. You can also adjust the frequency range to focus on the target sound's frequency.
What's the difference between TD2e Standard and TD2e Kit?
The TD2e Kit includes everything in the Standard version, plus additional accessories for extended field use.
How long does the battery last?
≥3 hours of continuous operating time per battery. Actual operating time depends on environmental and usage conditions.
The TD2e Kit includes 2 batteries, allowing for full-day inspections with hot-swapping.

This Jeep 3.0 EcoDiesel came to us with a blown head gasket and a cooling system completely contaminated with oil. Normally, this is the kind of situation where replacing the engine starts to make a lot of sense. But the customer couldn’t afford a new engine and really wanted to save his Jeep, so we agreed to give it our best shot — with no guarantees on how this would turn out.

Mark Thiel I bought this to track down hard to pinpoint noises and squeaks. For example, the other night we heard a cricket chirping someplace in the house. It was so hard to tell where the sound was coming from!
The next night when it started chirping again I thought I'd see if I could find the cricket with the TD2e. I found the frequency range of crickets online and used that to narrow the range on the TD2e. Within a few seconds we discovered why we couldn't find the cricket. The sound was clearly shown coming up through the floor from under the house!
Pretty amazing tool.

Ryan Home Very amazing product. I am a mechanic with hearing problems and cannot hear certain leaks and this is a career saver!

Joshua King Been chasing an air leak in our plant for weeks. Old ultrasonic tool kept giving false positives-drove me nuts. Plugged this in, swept the room, and there it was-clear as day on the screen, from like 50 feet away. The frequency display on the right side made it obvious which sound was the leak vs background noise. Took maybe 10 minutes total. Honestly, I was skeptical at first because the price seemed too good for this kind of tech. But nope. It just works. Already ordered a second one for our other facility.

David Jones An amazing device for locating and characterizing all kinds of sounds for such tasks as diagnosing faults, finding leaks, etc. Very sensitive and very accurate! I have seen similar devices from other manufacturers but the cheapest one costs more than $8K and the prices range upwards from there to well over $20K. Given the quality, advanced technology, and capabilities of the Fotric TD2e, it's an incredible value!

Edward Wilson It works flawlessly. I recommend taking a quick course on the specific sound frequencies you’re looking for to get better results. During a basic simulated gas leak test, the camera had no trouble at all, whether due to the frequency or ambient noise. It’s also worth mentioning that it arrived super fast (even earlier than expected). I highly recommend it.

Steven Lewis Great device, long battery life and lots of functionality. I haven’t been able to connect via USB-C to download imagery no download on website. Not an issue with how the device operates. The value is very good considering the closest being at least 10x more expensive! I would love to see an acoustic/thermal combo from Fotric.
